Imaginary Theatre 2011 – Shows in Development

At the end of a big and busy 2010 including a successful National Tour of our premiere theatre work TASHI, over 15,000 children saw our shows in 19 venues across Australia in regional and metropolitan areas.

In 2011 the team at Imaginary Theatre have put time aside to dedicate to the creation of some news shows for children in Queensland and across Australia. This is very exciting news for the company, and for our audiences who can expect something new from Imaginary in 2012.

Imaginary's International Journey!

From May-August of 2011, Imaginary's General Manager Fiona MacDonald and Associate Director Thom Browning have been traveling across the UK, Europe, and Asia attending some of the best children's performing arts festivals in the world including the Imaginate Festival in Edinburgh, the ASSITEJ World Congress and Festival in Copenhagen and Malmo, as well as being invited to take part in an exclusive artist residency at the Kijimuna Festival in Okinawa.

By seeing a broad range of performances made specially for children and young people and meeting with fellow artists and managers from all over the world, Fiona and Thom have become acquainted with the best in international theatre for young audiences. They are now back to work in Brisbane putting their knowledge into practice, planning to make some wonderful new performances and installation works in the next few years. Watch this space!

Fiona's attendance at the Imaginate Festival, the ASSITEJ World Congress and Festival and Kijimuna Festival was assisted by Arts Queensland through their Career Development Grants.
