In Development

2011 is an exciting year for Imaginary Theatre as it will see the company developing some new performance works that will be seen by children and families in Queensland and beyond in 2012 and beyond. Read on for a sneak peak at some of the projects that Imaginary have planned:

LOOK

A new performance work for children aged 2-5

We arrive place and space unknown, and meeting in the middle we discover each other, the stranger then the friend. Surrounded by things both strange and familiar, together we conduct experiments of play, create new meanings, and build a world. All on our own.

The culmination of research investigating the languages of children's play, Look is an innovative new theatre work combining object theatre, storytelling and interactivity to explore a story of displacement, resilience and friendship.

"Exploratory, Imaginative, Experiential and Transformational. These are four of the many characteristics that the languages of theatre share with the languages of children's play. As theatre makers, we tread the line between the real and the imagined as we construct worlds to share with others. Imaginary Theatre, recognizing young children as the masters of play, will take heed from the experts in the development of Look - our new work for audiences aged 2-5 and their families." – Thom Browning, 'Look' Director

HORRENDO'S CURSE

A new performance work for children aged 6-12

Horrendo's Curse is an exciting new play adapted from Anna Fienberg's novel for children of the same name. Kidnapped by pirates, Horrendo and his friends face a short and miserable life at sea, until Horrendo takes over the ship's galley, cooking the finest food the pirates have ever tasted. With comedy, drama, excitement and suspense, this imaginative and witty tale about growing up and changing the world will appeal to the whole family.

Currently in creative development, we hope to produce this new work in 2013.

"Using Imaginary's special style of storytelling, combined with a clever use of multi-media, we aim to make it children's theatre at its most imaginative and spell-binding!"
