Little Artists at Play is a creative play workshop series for children aged 0-5 years and their parents and carers. Located at Brisbane Powerhouse, participants are invited to be part of multi-art experiences led by internationally acclaimed artists from Imaginary Theatre. Each week the host-artist will collaborate with the group on unique and engaging activities. From theatre and visual art to dance, music and digital media, there will be something to inspire everyone.
From January–March 2016, our third host artist is Verena Curr, a multi-disciplinary practitioner who creates, curates, performs, facilitates and consults in performance, visual, social, cultural and educational contexts. Verena has presented work nationally and internationally and has trained extensively in various performance forms with artists from Australia and abroad. Verena is drawn to projects that create rich & engaging arts experiences for communities and facilitate opportunities for shared, intergenerational, cultural and social exchange between children, young people and adults.
Verena will be facilitating 'Storyscapes', a play-based sensory installation where children and families can actively explore their senses and discover playful approaches to storytelling. The space will facilitate play with light, sound, landscapes, visual imagery, colour, texture and story. ‘Storyscapes’ will allow for open exploratory play as well as moments of active and guided facilitation.
Imaginary Theatre are seeking 6 individuals to be involved in the presentation of Powerkids: Little Artists at Play, as volunteers, who will work to assist the creative team in the rollout of the weekly program. These roles are integral to the success and weekly progression of the project and provide a great opportunity for budding artists and educators and those interested in working with very young children to participate in a creative setting and professional context.
"Engaging children and parents in the arts is something that’s really important to me and it’s been an absolute pleasure being involved in a program that does that really well. I’m really looking forward to incorporating what I’ve learned into my own practice. During the program I’ve seen my own confidence grow along with the children’s and their parent’s."
